Bangkok’s love affair with hidden speakeasies has been growing in the last few years, and the entrances to many of them are becoming more and more shrouded with mystery and gimmickry so that when you actually make it inside, you feel that you’ve really achieved something worth celebrating. Any excuse for a drink, right? So, if you’re feeling adventurous, try to fumble your way into a few of our favourites. There’s the original pioneer and trendsetter, Joseph Boroski, hiding behind his curtain in trendy Thonglor, the cocktails hidden behind a bank of lockers just across the road, or the train carriage tucked down an alleyway in Asok. On Sukhumvit’s notorious party street, Soi 11, you’ll need to say “cheese” or dial the right phone number to get a refreshing beverage. Feeling hungry? Enjoy some seafood before you go in search of your preferred poison, or munch some crepes before heading upwards for hidden tipples and jazz.
