As Team ASAI gets ready to unveil our second location – ASAI Bangkok Sathorn opens its doors on 15 May 2023, following the popularity of ASAI Bangkok Chinatown – we’re thinking about the journey so far. ASAI is a unique hotel concept dedicated to bringing guests and locals closer together. Everything we do is rooted in community and connection, from our artworks to our shared spaces.
So let’s take a look at the ways each location expresses our DNA individually and which parts of our character they share.
From the conception stage of both hotels, we’ve worked with the best local designers, artists and architects to weave aspects of the neighbourhood, location and culture into the design.
If you explore the inspiration for ASAI Bangkok Chinatown in this article, you’ll discover how the stone bench and mural in reception evokes Chinese row houses, and how local artist Gong designed decorative curtains to divide the space while echoing Chinese lantern tassels. In Sathorn, a fabric collage created by textile design expert Awika Samukrsamen combines colour and texture to create a dreamscape of the neighbourhood. At Err: Urban Rustic Thai on the second floor, up-and-coming designer D’Jai sets the tone for laid-back dining with an abstract painting inspired by traditional homestyle Thai utensils and enamel plates. Through these collaborations, we’ve infused both ASAI Bangkok Chinatown and Sathorn with the authentic flavours of the neighbourhoods while growing and strengthening our community and spotlighting local talents.
ASAI rooms are designed with you and your travel needs in mind. You want somewhere clean and comfy with a powerful shower and speedy WiFi, where you’ll get a great night’s sleep in between adventures. In Chinatown and Sathorn, rooms are functional bases of operations with local touches and thoughtful essentials, smart storage and high-quality linens. They’re compact and efficiently designed to maximise communal spaces.
You stay at ASAI because you want to connect with other guests and the community. Both at Chinatown and Sathorn, you’ll find communal spaces to find common ground. At Chinatown, the bar, restaurant and courtyard areas bring people together to eat, drink and chill. At Sathorn, the ground-floor lounge has comfy sofas and tables with plug sockets for your laptop. You can grab a drink at the bar or take a streetside seat for top-notch people-watching.
While room sizes at ASAI Sathorn are a little smaller than Chinatown, Sathorn introduces bunk rooms! Perfect for your travelling gang, these brand new rooms (not available at Chinatown) sleep four friends in two sets of bunks.
While Sathorn has none of the meeting rooms that Chinatown has, the street-front lounge is a great place to get together. At Sathorn, you can meet on the street for a casual brainstorm or catch up with drinks. At Chinatown you can book a fully equipped space for a more formal meeting.
Simply put, there’s a different energy. In the heart of Bangkok’s bustling financial district, Sathorn feels like a modern and ASAI Bangkok Sathorn is a great place to feel the pulse of the city as you gather with friends after work or plan your next adventure. Chinatown connects you to the old-world charm and authentic culture of Yaowarat.
Enjoy the familiar ASAI DNA you know and love from ASAI Bangkok Chinatown and experience the distinctions that make our new destination unique. ASAI Bangkok Sathorn opens 15 May 2023, so drop in for a drink or a meal or stay a while.
